Kaduna is a former gubernatorial post with beautiful British colonial and modern buildings. The ancient walled city of Zaria in the north retains much of its old character and has a beautiful mosque and the Palace of Emir. Out of Katsina, on the border with Niger, ancient burial Hausas and spectacular city of Sallah celebrations (see below in the Entertainment section.)
Kano was the largest of the ancient Hausa cities and is now the third largest city in Nigeria. The walled old town still remains and gives a medieval atmosphere to the city, although the city was founded at least 1000 years ago then having strategic importance in the routes of trans-Saharan trade. Kurmi Market has many tourist souvenirs, including the richly embroidered Fulani horse and decorations used at festivals. Interestingly the Great Mosque and the Palace of Emir, an excellent example of Hausa architecture. The city has many colonial style anon clubs, good restaurants and nightlife.
Jos is a tourist center because of its location (1200m above sea level) and pleasant climate. The Jos Museum has a large collection of pottery, and the nearby Museum of Traditional Nigerian Architectureholds a collection of life-size replicas representing different styles of Nigerian architecture, even KatsinaPalace, ZariaMosque and KanoWall. There is also a small zoo and easy access to Assob Falls.
